About the designer
A message from the designer NIAMH GALEA:
Designed around small and subtle stories of my friendship with Ziyad who now runs umi nori but once upon a time was a big deal drug dealer as he was recovering from heartbreak. We lived together at Terry Street and he was always awake partying and basically playing this character.
I added 2020 into the print to commemorate this ****ed up year.
Superbloom is a reference to when I was 22 and I lived in LA during Superbloom and it was very much affirmative time of sexual awakening.
It's a silk velvet suit with hand devore burnout process.
The waist buckles are original mary quant vintage; she is a legend in fashion as she invented the mini skirt so those buckles are a very important piece of fashion history.
Ramp Tramp is a reclaimed slut used by skater boys to talk about the sluts who are obsessed with them.
Tramp Stamp is a reclaimed slur from the tattoo world to refer to a lower back tattoo and how women who get them are sluts.
So there are a lot of small messages about sexual empowerment and women owning their sexuality and not being ashamed.
Cocaine 88 is a reference to this silly jumper Ziyad used to always wear that I thought was funny.
